Original Colour FTW.
When I got my red vlt I wasn't overly keen on the colour but it has completely grown on me and now i get excited when ever i see tidy maranello over mx grey vls.

I remember seeing those cars over 10 years ago now, he had a yellow BT1 he had imported years prior which was quite tidy and had loads of modified parts to bolt on it.

The other car was red from memory which was for sale may have had a calais front which was a race car and had the top mount, looked completely stupid.

His theory, if I crashed on the track the first thing to get hit would be the inter cooler and the car would then stop, well I think if you hit something hard enough to ruin the inter cooler it will also ruin other stuff like radiators also.

Nice enough guy though as I had my gen vl calais turbo there he ended up trying to buy that off me instead!

I know his daughter. Spok to him and offered to buy one but he is wanting quite a bit and they are both in need of a full restoration. Ones a calais TURBOZ and the other is a bt1 HOLD0N . ( number plates)
I have quite a few photos and his daughter sent me a video the otherday of him doing a skid in one so they still run. As far as I know they just sit under tarps slowly going up in value day by day.

Wasn't the BT1 restored? Well painted etc just needed to be put back together from memory? He had a massive truck turbo and lots of expensive goodies to bolt on way back then! Think he told me he brought it from an auction in Australia straight from the police at 40000kms think he did a few in it before parking it up. It wasn't the bright yellow though was it? It was more of a custard yellow, it was a long time ago more like 13 years ago now that I think about it.

I wonder where that dark blue manual turbo from the hawkes bay ended up?

And my old gen VL Calais Turbo which I sold in 2007 to a guy in palmy?

They all seem to go into hiding!

Don't think it was restored, May of had a custard paint job but I mean restored back to original condition. I know there's a genuine vl turbo still in the hawks bay area but not sure of its colour or condition, I tried to get details on it but the person who i was asking wasn't to keen on giving the owners details away even though he didn't buy it I know there's a Calais turbo in west Auckland i went and viewed it but the tags did not register as a vl turbo even tho it had a A8 motor and the rego tag said TURBO CALAIS ?? bit of a mystery that one.

Wow, those picture's are depressing

I love people who hold onto these sorts of cars, do absolutely nothing with them, fail to look after them and then want huge $$$ for them...Makes me laugh

If I can get some picture's of this car I'm chasing, you better make sure your sitting down....it makes those 2 look like they've been restored lol

That Calais Turbo in west Auckland with the A8 block must be my mates old car. History there was he brought a gen VLT stolen and recovered from turners in 2003. It was stuffed! And had NO tags on it.

He ended up taking all the running gear out and fitting it to a VL Calais that he brought, we saw this fairly straight calais on the side of the road so knocked on the guys house door and asked him if he would sell it, sold it then and three for $2000.

The paint was faded but was very tidy, it had the red interior which he hated, at the time I moved to chch for work so he came down to visit, we went to rarespares who had a full grey interior so we changed it over.

We fitted the engine diff etc, it was manual but not a MX7 box. We the fitted 17 inch ZS mags to it. Went really well as it had a new turbo on it.

He then used it daily for a while and sold it off. Before he sold he gave me the 28 spline diff out of it which was later thrown away by mistake, I left it at my mates shed and about 6 years later his dad had a massive clean out of the shed throwing the diff away, I was gutted but could only blame myself for leaving it in the shed so long.

Last time I saw it on trademe it had new paint and looked ok, must be the same car?

Talking about cars left to rot, back In the good old days before trademe the trade and exchange had a Vl with 40kms v8 calais advertised for $4000, we thought it must be misprint but not to be. It belonged to a rich guy who left it outside so went rusty etc, full of rust and mould etc. However the interior was mint like new! Was a factory V8 and light blue my fav colour of the calais. It was in Howick, hopefully went to a good home. At the time I could buy a tidy one for $7000 so thought it was overpriced but would have been a great project.

Here is a pic of the ugly bitcch haha.

Brand new, unused turbo caps!

My old calais turbo I had when I lived in Brisbane.
Completely regret selling that car.
Can help but wonder what happened to it.
Was completely standard when I owned it, probably hekticklyoffthechain modded now.
