Our v8 landcruiser

this has been our project for the last couple of months..it consists of an 80 series landcruiser with a remanufactured 454 bigblock.. its a stock engine however it has a 502 chev cam..it replaced the old 4.5 litre 1fz-fe and a gearbox adapter was used to put chev onto the toyota g/box.. the converter was de-stalled to 1900 which comes on perfect with the cams torque peak..gearbox seems to be alright.. and the standard diffs apperantly are even bigger than the 9inches and are strong enough for our needs.. runs a single 3 inch exhaust.. it now has twin throttle bodies when we converted to gas..still needs a dyno tune because it has been too hot in the past few days.. well heres some pics of the full conversion..enjoy

thats it for now..

thnnx mate.....so that we could tow our boat..easier.. before it use to be a pain in the ass..always dropping outa gear..it was a matter of time before the engine blew up and the gearbox ***ed up, to much wear going 2nd to 3rd, 2nd to 3rd.. and many times towing in a 80 zone uphill doing 20 kays.. its a breeze now..plus its fun to drive aswell..

Thats cool, but why did you put the factory air cleaner back in when you have pods?

exactly.. lol.. we havnt had a chance to take it out because the pods have been on for a couple of days.. and when it goes for the engineering.. we have been told that we might not get a road worthy with pods.. but we shall wait and see.. advanced it a bit today and goes a little bit harder.. but still waiting on a dyno tune..

Great conversion, shame it has lost the carby but if you go bush you would want some economy I suppose. I would get a pair of snorkals that go up the A pillars for some cool air for that twin manifold if it was mine.

thnx man.. yer we might put twin snorkals.. but weve been told that too much cold air will lean the gas and it wont go as good.. but we shall see..

thnx jake.. nah it dosnt have a button.. if u want 2wd u needa remove the drive shaft.. and once u do that u have to engage centre diff lock.. i actually pulled it out.. but i didnt know it needed the CDL engaged.. so it wasnt moving any were.. lol.. so we just put it back on..

its still the same bro.. all weve done is sorted out the TPS finally so no more manual shifts.. every thing is holding up well.. the gearbox is flaring a little into 3rd if u give it heaps, but if u drive it normal its good.. for now were driving it easy.. now the tuna season is on so were gonna begin doing trips to portland and then marlin fishing in nsw.. hopefully once its over we will strip the box, rebuild it.. and put some american z pack clutches with double frictions.. should hold well then.. but for now its good..

depending on how fuel goes.. soon we might even put in a bigger cam and get the heads done.. but by that stage im assuming we will have a 4L85-e box in it with a 9 inch

BTW... we took it down it engineers and all is good.. we just need to raise it a couple of inches more and extend the bump stops because the steering bar (dunno the name) comes to close to the sump for their regualtions.. weve changed the springs and they definetly will never touch, but they say it has to be done.. it has new brakes aswell so we should pass engineers next time we go up..

thnx.. PSI-EFI

thnx bro.. yer its something different.. everyone puts 350's in them then stroke em to 383 for the torque to tow.. we just do this, leave it stock, and it does a killer job..

thnx vk_kid .. it did cost a bit.. but the main purpose was a tow horse for our boat.. an f-250 or suburban would of costed way too much.. so it turns out not so bad

lol.. our old 1fz-fe went alright on gas.. was dual fuel tho
