87 VL Turbo SL

Hi Everyone,
Heres a discription, and a few pics of my 1987 VL Commodore SL. This is a cut and paste from another forum

Name: Ben
Model: 1987 VL Commodore SL
Colour: Alpine White
Engine Type: Was standard RB30 Six - Now an RB30ET
Power: Stock 150 Kw output
Exhaust: 3" Manta system
Gearbox: 5 speed MX7 manual
Diff: VL Turbo 3.45 LSD Diff
Brakes: Stock VLT brake setup, Slotted DBA disks front, standard disks rear
Suspension: Stock
Wheels/Tyres: Series 1, VT SS 17's with 235 - 45 tyres
Interior: Standard SL Trim + Sheepskin front seat covers, wheel cover, and genuine Holden floormats.
Stereo: Pioneer DEH 7750 Headunit with 2 TSE - 1075 speakers front and 2 6 x 9 spkrs, rear
Build Period: 2002 on

I first purchased it in May 2002 for $2500 from a young family who had upgraded to a 4WD. It was in good condition. If a little grubby looking in the interior from where there kids had spilt drinks, etc, on the seats. The exterior was straight and the paint was good. But the previous owners lived in a red soil area, and there was some staining around the taillights and rear moldings as well as the door moulds and behind the bumpers and anywhere else it could get in

Soon as I got it home I set about cleaning it up, and took all the moulding and badges off and cleaned the stains off, and polished the whole thing with polyglaze cut and polish. it took about 2 months to get all the red stains out. I finished it with meguiars scratch X and wet look polish. For the interior I used a countless amount of polyglaze interior cleaner which bought it up as good as new. I then added a set of VL Calais rims, colour coded the grille, and got a set of Berlina taillights and center panel. heres a pic of it at this stage at about late 2002.

A few months later, It went to the panel shop to get the common VL problem of rust around the back window cut out. at the same time I had the F & R Bumpers and door moulds sprayed in asteroid silver + a few other touch ups. After that, I thought the Calais rims looked too conservative, so I upgraded to some VT SS rims, and removed the pinstriping. Im pretty happy with the way it looks now. This was during 2003

I then put a Calais front on it in December 2007

Than about Feb / March this year, I finally got turbo running gear out of a rusted out factory VLT SL.

Some new pics. Just completed Calais interior and wiring harness install.

Changing the wiring harness over to the Calais spec one was a big Job. All the dash had to be removed and HVAC componants taken out.

All done. It now has Power door locks, Power windows, Mirrors, Antenna, and the flip front now works. Here are some Interior pics.

Special thanks goes to forum member - mogila / Sash. Without his help, I would not have got the Calais interior to put in this car.

Trying hard to look for one. They're very hard to find in decent condition. Theres still some parts Ive got to find to finish it off properly. I have got the lower door moulds and side skirts to go on. But I'm looking for the steering wheel in grey in good to immac condition. The front guard badges, The inside plastic covers for power mirrors, and Genuine Calais taillights, not repros. In good to very good condition
