Oh... also forgot to add this pic.

Dash now displays what gear the gearbox is in. Will show P, R, N, D, 2, 1.... Since I have the ratchet shifter - thought this was best so I knew what gear it's in.

Quick update - will post photo's later.

Spent most nights till Midnight and then last night until 3:30am in the morning getting everything finalised including removing the whole wiring loom, redoing/resorting alot of the wires and ensuring everything is soldered and wrapped the loom.

Had an issue with a fitting for the temp sender for the temp gauge, but sorted that out at 8am this morning just in time for the car to be tuned today at 9am.

Tuning went well until I found a hole in the radiator. A few calls and had the radiator replaced within an hour including going to get the radiator.

Tuning resumed and got the car to a point where it starts & idles fine. Revs great. and was time to go for a drive and log some data.

All I can say is **** me.. the car is so responsive and i've only used 1/3 - 1/2 throttle.

Big issue though - the tailshaft hits the floorpan pretty bad, so its game over until I get that sorted. A lower temp thermostat wouldn't go astray either.

So the QLD St Commodore C4C is not on the cards for the car... I am so devo'd! but prefer to get stuff sorted rather than risk damaging stuff.

Running a bit hot... goes up to 105 before coming down. Thermos come on at 94.
Need new radiator and lower temp thermostat.

is this on the scanner? or autometer gauge or?

and where is the temp sender?

i had the same issue via the scanner thought my motor was cooking but it's standard especially coming from a vl where 88 degress is standard operating temp

On the ls1 computer through the standard ls1 temp sensor in the passenger side head.

I had exactly the same thing I put an autometer temp gauge just before the thermo stat and it was fine, I'm told they get that hot to push up efficiencies

They run far hotter than the holden engine , fans generally flick on at 93 degrees . My Ls1 is in a track based VL and ive had zero probs in running hot , actually it runs a little too cool on the track . I use a 4 core radiator however but its seen better days .

Ordered a new radiator. Should do the trick for cooling.

Also had the gearbox checked out by transmission shop - he said all good.

While I was there - swapped out the springs with standard height springs to see how the tailshaft clears like that.

Also got a few photo's of the engine bay while I was there.

And then drove the VL home. Felt good and strong. Tuner still needs to finalise the tuning as its running fairly rich at the moment.. if its like this with using only 1/4 throttle and <3000 revs - it's going to be pretty damn good!

Engine ran at a little over 105deg at night time sitting on the highway at 3000rpm (95kph)... So work needs to be done on the cooling.

Radiator replaced with a V8 VS copper core item. With no other mods, the car runs at 80-85 deg on the highway. Thermo's come on at 94 and it doesn't go over 98 sitting at the lights.

As you can see from all the photo's in here - the VL has been getting pretty dirty and dusty as it goes from shop to shop and in my garage for the last 7 months. So I treated it to a wash and a mini detail to clean it all up.

Had some more issues with the power steering lines, and that will end up being tomorrow's job.

Time for a small update.

Power Steering lines are sorted for now. Had to replace the high pressure hose as it seems it ended up with a bend in it just as it went into the rack. Sealed ok for a bit, but after 100kms of driving it let go. Had an awful mess under the car with the entire p/s system dumping straight down onto the exhaust and being blown backwards.

So that's all fixed up. It's been street tuned and is fine to drive around. Tuner will touch up the top end on the Dyno at a later stage.

It's all been about running it in for the first 500kms. Ended up getting 197kms out of the first tank of 80L of e85... wow...
However, considering alot of that was tuning at idle and without the car moving doesn't seem too bad.

The next 310kms took 80L of e85, so running at about 25L/100kms.

Sorted a few things out for engineering - Park/Neutral safety switch, reverse lights - all of which was a breeze with the Dakota Digital sensor for the shifter. Also needed a cover for the fuel lines (boring!) in the boot, and external filler. Got this all sorted and got the car mod plated and complied! yay!

No new pics - will get some on Sunday when i'll have it out at the QSC Cruise4Charity.

you can do way better on the fuel economy, unless you've been smashing the loud pedal

Being on e85 and also having 3.7 diff gears, only 3 speed box, and 4800 stall means it probably goes through a bit when on the highway.. lol..

Edelbrock covers?

I was going to take the covers off, grind the coil tabs off it so its flat, and then paint them Black.
