Gilmer drive kits for 308

OK now i have been told that i could have probs fitting a Gilmer Kit to my
VL V8 Calais ...... it is a 1987 with A/C & P/S
I was told that the A/C & P/S are going to cause me headaches & that i would have to get custom pullies made up for them
Anyone heard anything differnt ?

They are legal in New Zealand, not sure how it works in OZ, but they’re not that loud so I don’t see why they would be illegal. Mine got fitted at the same time it was in at the shop getting a few other things done and I think they charged me about an hour’s labour, so they can’t be that hard to fit

Have a listen to this one; you can’t hear it that much from the outside
(Bare in mind I also have a JP Timing Gear set installed which makes half of the sound up front)

The gilmer kit, sounds like a supercharger with the noise that comes from the belt. They are very hard to fit if you want to keep ac and ps. If you get rid of the ac it is a hell of a lot easier. I fitted one to a VP V8 auto air and steer. Lasted about 1 week, sounded awsome until the whole thing let go - too many mods and spacers and belts. Take your ac off and then fit it up. Just dont try and race anyone who thinks your car is blown. Very embarrassing.

Like one of the guys up here found out, run a Gilmer belt set up and blow the belt when you’re a sure winner before the final, well you end up coming second, as no one carries a second belt. However if he had a STD set up, well the dozen or so guys that offered him a lend of the spare STD belts, they would have been happy to see him win the final, and not be sitting in the pits.

But there good for the wank factor…..

arent the pulleys a hell of a lot lighter than the standard ones, therefore making the motor a tad more responsive
