Gassed RB30

I am about to convert my RB30 to straight gas due to EPA matters and also to try something different to the normal way of powering up a VL.
I am just wondering what you guy think of the idea.
I know a lot of people instantly knock gas but if you look at the statistics and figures it's not all that bad.
I plan to use a lot of my current gear as well as some addtional little pieces.
Garrett T04S/T66 Turbo
Custom exhaust manifold 1" diameter pipes for extremely high air speed and very fast boost reaction.
42mm Garrett Wastegate - Large intercooler
2 B2 Gas research convertors
MSD 6AL ingnition system
Microtech MT4 igntion only computer (maybe) so i can piss off the AFM
N/A power ported inlet manifold + XF throttle body
I'll be looking for 200Kw -250Kw @ wheels and just a good all round street package.
Currently puts out 235Hp@wheels on 10Psi with standard fuel sys, computer.

Gas research convertors plummed in before XF throttle body.
Bloke doing LPG conversion said i could still use the XF T/B, it has been port matched to the inlet manifold and will fit the planned convertors which are actually made to suit an XF.
Thats just what i was told, but what VLT030 is saying is an interesting point to bring up with the dude doing the engine work

Well i recon that only bad thing about GAS is its a bit hard to start. Esspecially on cold start. But besides that its great man

My car does backfire occasionally. Not too otfen but just here n there... I get about 350Km to a tank in peak hour traffic running 16 PSI. Costs me about $25 to fill

Im unsure of how much i can boost it to yet. Might be able to squeeze a bit more out of it.

What sort of $$$$ just for the gas setup? convertors, tanks "roughly"
I know some dudes don't like saying what they have spent.

mate ull save that on running costs!!!! With my old car i was getting about 180 KM to a tank of petrol. THis car i get about 350km to a tank of gas. So it will pay off!!!

Plus when you race theres no need for C16 or nething!

Thats it, although being a weekender it could take a while to recover costs but at least it is legal, should be fast enough, hopfully mid 12's, will be absolutley hilarius when the next little pigglet pulls me over and tries to get me EPA tested and I show him the gas tank in the boot and the emmisions print out to prove it.

You could probalby give that Jason guy a call, he would probably interested in helping you out still.

To aid in backfiring you could have backfire plate, which is like a sunroof for your plenum, but you have a ally plate, like a coke can rolled flat bolted on nice and tight with a few gaksets. Worst comes to worst you blow the ally plate instead of the mainifold, turbo etc. Jason's XF blew a cooler pipe due to backfire which damaged his headlight at calder.

Straight gas is the go if you want to get rid of the cops and epa. How much power are you making VL Muzza? I wonder how much it is to get a VL Engineered for a highly modifed engine, 700HP is pretty close to getting the engine emissions compliant and his pumping in excess of 600hp at the engine, running a GT35, nizpro inlet etc with an autronic computer. Ive spoken to a few people about emissions test and they said you can just lean it back and run low boost for the test and it will pass as you got pretty much the first ADRs to comply to.

Maybe a Twin Cam combo is still able to be '86 ADRs compliant due to the engine being number being on the block, hence how you identify an engine and you should get better emissions out of that.

Making a VL legal is probably an ultimate goal for anyone, but they will still canary you for too low, too good, and too fast for their VY SS

I have been reading about running a water and ethanol (metholated spirits?) type mix not sure of the ratio 2-1 ( i think ) and running it through the standard injectors with the tank mounted in the boot.
Apparently this mix vastly increases the stability of the engine at high boost when running gas, cooler combustion chamber, higher O2 levels and also helps keep the buring process clean.
I am planning on trying this out, probably run a simple vacuum type setup from 5 psi onwards and keep the amount of water/ethanol injection linear to the amount of boost the turbo produces.
I think it's all about finding the right balance between power and reliability running a setup like this.

Is he still around or if not do you have a number i could contact him on - just so when i get stuck for ideas i can talk to someone who's "been there done that".
As i am find most mechanics and workshops piss themselves with laughter when i tell them i want to run gas, they all say you can't make decent power, and the thing will always be playing up. But i am very determined to get my car running well on the LPG.
