Hey guys.

Thought I would chuck a thread up on my new build, seeing as I am bored.
I brought a vl Calais off of mike a few months ago now, he was good enough to let me leave a deposit and save up the rest for the car as honestly I couldn't really afford to get it but I couldn't resist the temptation.

When I brought the car It had an 8 point weld in roll cage with removable side intrusion bars, ( which I still need to pick up off of mike and some other bits and bobs too.) smoothed bay with all the holes welded over, boxed rails and an addition made by mike to run a 5inch dump pipe, its really more of a huge dent, haha. The spare tire floor pan has been chopped off and brought up out of eyes view, also the window wipers and squirters have been shaved, which I only realized the other week when I was looking for surface rust.

the car also has a setup for the rear suspension to be moved inwards.

Since owning the car I have removed all of the surface rust from the bottom of the car, hand painted with a rust sealant then covered in black acrylic paint, (still need to fix up some places) also painted the floorpans black and built frame work for the car to sit on so I can move it around very easily.

My plans for it keep changing, I was going to do a big 26/30 setup. But I'm leaning towards putting a big lsx motor init producing 600hp But buying the motor will probably be one of the last things I do, simply because of cost.

I'm going on holiday for 3weeks next week, so when I get back its time to spend some money on the house as the mrs hates my car

but hopefully I'll be able to put away some money along with my tax return and mazza buying my manual. So I can put some money towards these plans.

Mini tubs to suit billet drag rims or convo pro drag rims( more leaning towards the convos) a new smooth boot floor ,new parcel shelf, removing the back half of the roll cage and redoing it because it looks off. ( I'll take photos) tell me what you think..... And removing a tiny bit of rust in the left hand fender.
Then it's gonna sit under a cover for ages... Until I raise more funds..
I finish my apprenticeship late this year so I'll put in the hard yards to earn some more cash and throw it at this thing.

That was an awesome car you picked up for the project!!!

Dunno how long it will stay registered without the wipers though?

I was gonna go for the sv88 colour scheme ,now I'm thinking of the single tone silver they on the hdt sports. Honestly I probably want know until it comes to me sending it off for paint

Yea I'm not sure what to do about the window wipers... But I'm sure as **** not cutting that panel out. But if I absolutely have too, I have a spare panel at home.

Currently on holiday, been on this website so much cos I keep waking up at 3 am and there is nothing to do. All I wanna do is get home and buy the convo pro drag rims and start acquiring parts for the project. Why did I have to get inspired on holiday, haha.

UPDATE...

Nothing has happened, haha , and nothing will be for a couple of months. Will be getting new plates for it as the old set went missing and then maybe later in the year its getting rubbed back and 2 pack primed. Then its gonna sit there for abit unless I can convince the mrs to let me get a loan out to paint it. Looking into track racing now swell, hopefully gonna catch up with a guy who works at barbagallo and races cars, so I can pick his brain..... This is gonna be a looonnnggg project.

an ipad doesnt have all the same tools as a normal computer, so copying and pasting things on certain websites to other websites becomes hard and im not too good with computers

although i just realised i could use a proxy to get onto the site, so ill upload pics now.

its also amazing how much the small **** adds up aswell!! i was lucky with mine that i had literaly boxes and boxes of bolts and **** from all the vls iv wrecked sitting in the shed to raid for the calais lol

vlwagonit: i was thinking of that, but i think i might get another 2.5 tonne jack and another metal beam, jack it up at either side with a couple of mates to support it then drop it down onto all four wheels. its safer and that way i know the car want just hit the ground or me get crushed when im underneath it, undoing the bolts.

that frame you see on the car, took me the best part of two weeks to weld up. i was redoing welds constantly cos i was afraid of it braking apart on the trip home. turns out its super farking solid now.

you'll probably want a couple more bars in there if you are going to make a track car. a couple of diagonals in the back to link everything up and she'd be rigid as.

absolutely no way thats getting anything but B rego, but thats not neccessarily a bad thing either.
