Thanks guys! I'm kinda up in two minds as to what I want to do with it.. Either rebuild the motor with all the goodies with high mount turbo / power glide etc or just fix the small things and keep it the way it is. Redrb30jet I payed 13,500 for it.

13.500 not a bad price, I wouldn't have payed more than 15 though! Do not modify it, I would keep it as is for sure it's beautiful!

Very clean Calais, always liked this colour. Surely you want to up the ante with a bigger turbo, fuel system and box. I can understand keeping it standard looking, but don't know why you would want to keep it standard mechanically when it has so much potential. Enjoy

Safety first, put a good security system in place
![]() Your between a rock and a hard place as when you mod it you will louse you originality and my hard on will go away ![]() Remove drive line Mate first and source another box and engine and build and drop that in. This will cost you stuff all (few Hundred) as you would have to remove the original gear any way. The money you save by keeping the original numbers driveline will be money will be money in the bank. (if you go to sell). kid of like a Pre-nup And I know a lot of people will say they will never sell up but if thats the case its even more wise to do this as it will double or triple in value. way I see it. Nice vl sounds like its in good hands.

Why are people saying do not modify it or keep it standard? Are people thinking there will be a significant return on investment holding onto an original VL?
I would not be holding back on your dream mods for the sake of a few grand investment return on a car. There are better investments options if your into making money if that's the case. |

You have the safety first thing right but maybe in the form of a 6point cage. Putting the factory drive line to the side Is a waste of time if your going to mini tub it and 4 link it. I know at some point in your life being a vl owner you have always wanted to do it so why not. |

Personally if I knew what I do now. I would have had my engine re built with strong internals, maybe a slightly different cam, high flow then nothing else....just a nice quick cruiser. |

I'd say it's a case of don't destroy what is fairly rare now for a VL Factory Calais, factory turbo, and mint, original condition As it is, a car that can be enjoyed and yet still look the part, and be legal. No mechanical headaches or being on the verge of undrivable Cages and tubs etc just ruin it's potential to ever be enjoyed as a cruiser again, and if there is ever a time to sell, buyers generally look for clean, stock examples, not semi- drag cars My 2c worth

Personally I cant see the excitement of having a stock VL sitting in the garage hoping for it to go up in value. |
