i didnt even drop..

i passed yr 12.. then went straight to factory work.. now want something solid and i like cars so i figure a mechanics apprenticeship will benifit me somehow..

also.. doesnt have to be mechanics.. and be audio or tyre fitter or something.. just interesting in an auto related apprenticeship

Your looking in the wrong trade then brother.

@ 17 years old you wont get much higher then what that factory job was paying you for and it you want a 'career' & not a dead end job that is good just for now, your going to have to put up with the ****ty pay and get over it.

Everyone worth a mint started off @ the bottom and on 6 - 7 bucks and hour.

Reality check dude

Diesel mechanics can be applied to normal mechanics dude.

Diesel certificate means you get paid more, thats it .

boys im still an MTA apprentice for another 6 weeks i did 2.5 years as a mechanic and was on bout 400 a week through MTA this is with over timwe etc. i am currently finishing my spare parts ones and i am on round $600 a week now at 3rd year level (3 year apprenticeship in spares).

my word of addvice is dont bother unless ur doing disel there is not a lot to be made for everyday mech and parts staff in adelaide. i will only be on $17 or so an hour in 6 weeks when i finish and r qualified.i will be chasin bigger buks else where after this as this trade is **** and not good money for effort unless ur a somebody.

if u want a easy apprenticeship go through mta ur always guarenteed a job a wage for atleast 4 years.

Na bro, They offered me a tyre fitting job & then after that 1 year thing they would have sorted something else out, but I told them to shuv it as im not waisting a year of my life to get a 'tyre fitting' certificate when I learnt how to do it after 1 week at my currant job lol.

I work at Sinergy Motorsports. VL30ET off here, which is a mate of mine was working there, he quit (he was an apprentice) and then asked the boss if I could try out.

I've been there for 3 months since yesturday, pretty stoked .

Im on $252 p.week after tax for a 40 hour week.

by the sounds of it tho.. im barkin down the rong bush with this mechanics apprenticeship idea.. i just thought it would be cool to learn bout it all so i could come home n do it myself.. but if the pays as bad as some say and it kinda leads no where unless ur a somebody as sprigzy said.. i might find a new direction

mate if you wanna do it do it, thats what im doin, the wages are pretty crappy at first yea but you do get some bonus's along the way i get $500 tax free every six months from the governmet and then every yr I get another $500 from them so i get $500 after 6 months the $1000 after a yr the $500 after yr and a half then $1000 at 2 yrs ect.. i have learnt heaps already from doin mine i mean i pulled my motor out and replaced it with another rb30 at home with a few mates and it went smoothly, i saved my self a ****load in labor as my bos said it would cost around $900 for motor and labor if i wanted to do it at work, i got a motor for $500 and spent about $100 on coolant hoses, coolant, oil, ect. sorry about the long reply lol but i think it is worth doing if its what you wanna do

think of it this way.

Im at uni, paying huge fees to study. Will earn approx 45k p.a when i finish.

I could have got an apprenticeship. Paid to study (learning on the job). depending on your work ethic i wouldnt be surprised if you could earn 45k first year qualified.

reading between the lines, schools not your thing. So get an apprenticeship asap!

mind if i ask where man??
long lasting to job agencies is like 6 months..

also speaking about job agencies.. if anyone out there doesnt have there license.. and is goin thru a job agency.. the job agency is actually meant to pay for ur license.. like tests, lessons.. everything
they wont tell u this.. but yeh my driving instructor told me that if ur thru an agency the government gives them money to take care of that kinda thing..

what do you do tho?
working for urself is good as long as u continuously get work
