I've always thought that the Nissan 6 was the best engine to make way in a Commodore up until now. For only 3L and being 20yrs old it's a fairly good engine. It outweighs the black 202 in probably all aspects and compared to the Buick V6 and the Ecotec it goes good considering it's size. I'm sure if there was such thing as a 3.8L RB, it would kill the V6.

I agree.

IMO the RB30 is still a great motor, even if it's not a powerhouse. To this day I've never heard a decent reason as to why the RB30E is so crap, apart from not making 1,000,000KW.

Atleast they don't have to worry about boost straining on them, like the RB30ET, which could be why the RB30Es seem to last longer. Buick V6s and Ecotecs would be nothing if they were the same size.

They are quite overrated considering a S2000, will anilate any Buick or Ecotec powered Commodore. They maybe quite powerful in the Commodore world, but agains't other cars they are sh*t.

you could probably make just over 2hp per cube on a N/a Rb30 if it had a high comp (14:1) rb26 head, lots of porting, big cams, mechanical methanol injection (kinsler or similar) and custom built big diameter headers

build the bottom end the same as a tuff turbo motor (with lumpier pistons of course) get someone to do the head, and youd probably have to adapt the injection from 1 and a half sprint car set ups (or something) then tune it (mechanical injection is p*ss easy to tune when you know how)

it would probably cost less than a turbo set up coz there is

a) no turbo
b) no intercooler or associated plumbing
c) no expensive computer

but after all that 2 hp per cube is only 366hp/270kw, which would work out to be what, 270rwhp/200rwkw??

how much does a standard Vl weigh?

What are "lumpier pistons"?

I can't see you getting 270kw out of an NA 3L, even with the above mods (which would cost $10k+)

They weigh 1350kg

pistons with more dome height compared to turbo pistons which results in higher compression ratios......

really? well the speedway boys get 330hp+ out of 165cu in, 2 valve, pushrod 4 cylinders, so why couldnt you get a bit more from a 183cu in, 4 valve, DOHC 6 cylinder??

who cares if it cost $10,000, it would be different and interesting, fun to develop, you'd actually learn something new along the way ect etc the list goes on!

a rough calculation shows that 366hp and 1350kg equals a 12.44 second ET!!

well i know its not a VL and its defiently not the fastest out there, but i have a VH commodore with rb30e, extractors, exhaust, stage 3 computer chip, big cam, vl turbo fuel pump and bigger injectors. Had alot of unnessicary stuff like aircon, fans, vents, powersteering taken out to shed a couple of kilo's and to save alot of wiring. It seems like a nice project cause it is lighter (1180kg) then a VL with the rb30 in it, anyone guess rough power figures or ET for a quater?

If you have a quick N/A and it only gets to a 14 second pass and you spend 1000s of dollars on it who cares, theres no assistance from a Turbo so it makes it more rewarding.

you have got to be serious...

right?

Ehh that comment I made was from 2 years ago.

Looking back now, it was a pretty stupid comment. I still like N/As though.

Lol cant believe this thread is still going. Lets let the NA boys have their fun. If they wanna pour copious amounts of wasted money into an old ageing donk let them. Well all stick to our tried and tested way of going about things.

Nice attitude.
What do you suppose everyone did before Turbos became readily available? A tough N/a will sound a whole lot better than any turbo motor.
This argument has been done to death. Don't go on with it.

And the drift video is real. I have seen it and it's posted on the japanese r31 site whatever it is. Don't forget a lot of dynos read differently though.
