VLRB20DET - Berlina Turbo Project

Ok this car is no where near finnished..

Back 2 years ago I bought a VL Berlina Turbo 5spd off a good mate of mine who crashed it, When I got the car back to my place a friend, who at the time was a panel beater helped me remove the damaged front pannels and get everything ready to weld the new front on, my mate thought gettin pissed and trying to out run cops was a good idea , funny thing is my mate got away with it..

as before the car was quite damaged in the panel department, the motor was stuffed but the motor came with a brand new cylinder head, T4 turbo, modified (XF t/body) manifold and a 3" stainless mandrel exhaust

Just latley after the my rb20 calias decided to die, all that has been done is a bit of body work and installing new carpet and cleaning the interior and gathering parts, as soon as the calais is goin, work on this car will start again.

thanks for that, yeah my plan is to use the bits and pieces to rebuild the motor, my mate i bought it off was a bit of a tool, he blew like 6 headgaskets - running big boost and no cooler!. So im not sure about the block if it is warped or not, when it is all finnished it will be intercooled and running a autronic or motec as the idiot lost the turbo computer.

Looks like a fun project car that should'nt cost you too much, Probably thrash the crap out of the Berlina and look after the Calais.

Well that's what I would do.

the calais is good for cruzin, the berlina is more ment for speed cos its got the rb30et! and is a bit lighter than the calais with all the heavy audio junk in it

quick update: the other day i went out and stripped the block down so it is ready for a rebuild, thanks to Justin - Kingyvl for telling me about a good company in geelong to get rebuilds done through.. I called the company in question and they gave me a rough quote of 2000 for a rebuild which includes New aries forged pistons, chem - cleaned, new bearings etc...

as for the front of the berlina I will be getting a mate to weld and repair it soon, im sick of cleaning the bird **** off the car

Sounds good but that price is very low for a rebulid as I am doing it right now
with the same pistons and just for the pistons with rings it is costing $1200
so make shore you get a written quote and they right what parts they use
good luck with it...

UPDATE: 6/8/05 - After getting given a VL SL, Ive scrapped the berlina as the body was too far gone for an easy repair, so I have already moved all the interior/Dash etc into the SL, hopefully in november I will start building up the RB30 block
