If it's a VL then it has to be a 304 with a VJ prefix unless it was one of the Group A models which used VW and VP.
In the VK 304 used VA, VB, VC and VG engine number prefixes.

Cheers for that
Yep there ya go it's was an 8 paint has worn off part of it.

Well at the moment i brought it dirt cheap with an RB30E engine but got all the turbo attachments with it including turbo and ecu.

How do i find out about all the options it can with.
ie. sunroof, alarm, suspension ect.

i have read the codes and accesory thread but where would i find the codes on the car. ??

Cheers

Yeah BT1s don't have their own code and since they are SLs optioned up will come up as SL's on the VIN calculator

Tried searching for this, couldn't find it. Anyone got any idea what the serial number ranges are for the Adelaide and Melbourne plants? Anyone know what the oldest and newest VLs are on here?

I'm looking at a VL and the owner has supplied thefollowing as a VIN number. The calculator doesn't like it and revs says there is no RTA records. I've asked the owner to check, at the moment I can't get to it to see for myself. The number is: VK1966J112118L

Edit:
Didn't buy it, ended up with a nice 5L Calais instead. 8X19JGL228713L

Your car is a Holden Calais Sedan
From the factory it was equipped with the Holden 304 V8 producing 122kw at the flywheel.
It was produced in 1987 (Nov '86 build) at the Adelaide plant with a serial number of 28713

Any Holden that is built on or after 1st October in any particular year is considered to be the following years model. Eg. my car was built on the 21st October 1987 so is a 1988 model.
