Petrol

Some might think this is dumb question some might think it is good but I dont give a **** im going to ask it anyway.

If you car is sitting in the sun all day turned off can the petrol some how evaporate.

And same goes if you drive it straight after its been in the sun and lets say its been there for like 7 hours.

I was asked this question and I have really no clue I could lie and try and sound like I know but does anyone actully really know?

U would have to find out what temperature does petrol evaporate.
Then Stick a car out in the sun.
Cause the petrol tank is under the car. So u have to test how hot does the petrol tank get. Cause the car would get hot but that is cause it is in difect sunlight. Ud have to have this heat transferd though the car and then to the tank cause just having the car hot dosent mean the tank is hot.
Then ud have to do tests as to when the petrol evaporates does it rise and condensate on the top of a petrol tank. As in where does the evaporated petrol go ? Does it flow up into ur fuel lines and pass through them or does the evaporated fuel stay trapped in the tank ?
And if it says in the tank at what temp does the evaporated fuel become unevaporated?

Maybye u should ring up JJJ and ask Dr karl.

In theory its a sealed system, if this is true, it will evapourate and condence with temperature, but you will not lose any.

take it from someone that knows... Petrol will and does evaporate-NO fuel systems are NOT a sealed unit as they need to breath other wise your car would starve of fuel coz it cant suck anymore fuel out of the tank, i.e when u drink out of a bottle if you seal your lips around it and suck, the bottle crushes. The amount of fuel lost through evaporation various on the temp of the day, type of breather system and what fuel you have in your car.
Expect to loose upto a litre of fuel a week if you keep your car in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
