Dear diary,

It's been sometime since my last entry.

Motor is now locked into place. Accessory drive kit installed picked this up brand new from GMPP for under 1k delivered including alternator, belt, tensioner, ps pump, brackets and air conditioning setup.

The kit is an american CTS-V style and doesn't fit quite as nicely as the commodore stuff (alternator clearance is super tight to chassis rail. All said and done though much cheaper, brand new gm parts and looks like it will do the job. The AC doesn't come close to fitting due to dipstick and rail clearance, I've seen relocation brackets that put it up near the drivers side head but still tossing up whether I want to bother running it at all.

I've also knocked up all the fuel system and tested it all for leaks. Ended up going 3/8 hard line and bent up similar to factory 5/16 steel. The rest of the setup consists of a walbro intank upgrade, nylon braided -6, under car surge, single 044 and a corvette style static pressure filter/regulator. This saves me running a return line which is good as I barely have room for the vapour line and the 3/8 around the headers.

Once i tested system for leaks (there were a few especially hard line 37 degree flare) I primed up the tanks, filled the motor up with oil and dummied up the wiring so I could make sure it was going to start once everything was in properly.

Straight off the headers & no coolant primed with oil and fuel here is the vid:

VIDEO

Next up I'm looking at coilovers for the front and adjustable rear suspension. To finish off I'm also looking at adjustable radius rod, few new bushes and maybe adjustable upper control arm if pinion angle is sad.

Wiring will also go in over the next few weeks then it's off to get an exhaust. Headers on drivers side are resting on the fuel and brake line so they'll need a bit of a heat and move job but nothing major then it's off for engineering!

Oh how the years just slip away...

**Large post alert**

After losing a lot of love for this car, I went and got engaged to my mrs
Knowing that time was running out on random projects like this, i decided to make every effort to get it finished and drive it to my wedding.

The biggest problem with this goal was deciding that it would be a fantastic idea to do a proper split twin system exhaust. For old commodores, the fuel tank is in the way on drivers side and the spare wheel hump is blocking the passenger side.
This decision meant scrapping the already installed fuel system, sourcing a new custom tank or fuel cell and panel work to the boot floor.
Hoping it would be worth it, we set to work looking at how we could mount an under boot fuel tank with decent internal fuel surge protection whilst allowing twin exhaust clearance and using factory fuel filling point

After a few drafts and working with Josh from metalcraft (what a legend) we came up with this: Vid1 Vid2

Obviously this meant almost a complete reboot against a tough deadline (wedding!) everything started to slowly come together.

Josh also made us some hidden radiator overflow and wiper tanks:

Then off for some quick panel beating, the boys at Fusion Customs did a fantastic job replacing the boot floor and deleting the spare wheel hump:

Now there was enough room for Tim @Forged Automotive to weld up a sweet custom stainless twin 3" exhaust including x pipe and 4 mufflers:

Back to fusion for some beaver panel mods and the bumper was sent off for plastic welding then painted.

Had a good mate help us with the tidy wiring setup - 2x plugs hidden behind the engine will make for easy removal!

Some last minute issues led to panic and taking the week before the wedding off work running around as a parts mule for Tim @Forged Automotive.
Thankfully everything came good a day or two before and we cruised down to Nanga without a hitch (although well prepared for one!!)

And back home safe! Drove like a dream.

Cheers Ol,

Had a setback with rego, my original application expired and my resubmission was rejected :|

I tried not to let it worry me too much because I needed it finished for the wedding one way or another. I'll be looking for an engineer to check the car out and give their suggestions to the best approach moving forward.

Would it be accepted with an LS1 rather than the LS3 under the bonnet perhaps?

Potentially it would, but not an option I'm considering at this stage. I scrapped the RB30 because it wouldn't pass IM240 and went this route got pre-approval before I bought anything.

All money spent was to make sure it would be legit including cats, all emissions gear, erod carb legal package so I'm not keen on removing it all because of an administrative issue. I did everything properly and build still meets VSB14 LA2 as far as I interpret it - as long as an engineer will sign it off. Just going to take my time and finally have this thing registered properly in WA.
