i dont understand why people take km's into consideration when buying a vl. its that old, that chances are if its a 'low km' car the speedo has either been broken for most of its life or its a dash swap. you can tell by the overall condition how a car has been treated anyway. to be fair, you're looking at buying an old car that was the king of all p plater cars. sure it couldn't do single peggers as well as vn v6's, but no one wants vn's unless they're atlas grey vn ss's and p platers can't afford atlas grey vn ss's so vl's are where its at. get it in you.

just hold out and buy a clean stocker with 600,000km's on it, chop the springs and roll on pursuit rims until you can afford to do it properly. sure, it will be slower than your mates mums new camry, but you'll be old dudes will be like, this kid knows whats up. and you'll be like, **** yeah my crank angle sensor just broke but thanks to being a vl owner, i now know how to change a crank angle sensor. if you're smart, you'll buy an exec, because all those gymps who got the disc brake rear end with their calais and berlinas cant do skids because of those monster single pot rears. meanwhile you got the drums, and that means its single pegger time all the time ! if you're straight g and you save a little more money than your mates, you get the manual vl berlina or calais. then you'll be baking that rear right disc brake and warping it like a lord at your mates 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st birthday like a ****en lord. the underage kids at the party will talk about your skid for years to come.

then you get a job that pays half decently and you're like **** yeah bud its time to slap a turbo on this beast. this is where its gets a little bit dicey though. you gotta be true to the vl game and see it through. heaps of **** will go wrong and it'll sit in your garage for ages. there's a fork in the road here. you either sell the project and lose thousands like a little bitch, or you spend even more on it and get it going and start dosing up a storm like a lord. no blow off valves around here bro. zutututututu! then you get that $1200 lsd that ****s out after a few doughies! then you get that 3k jatco or that r33 box and a 5 puck clutch boy ! then you get that yellow sticker ! then you're back to the fork in the road where you sell your yellow stickered vl for peso's, or you put thousands back into it and reclaim the streets.

vl turbo, king of the street since always.

(i miss my vl)

Caibs nailed it!!

Also all your friends and family think you're insane for always spending copious amounts of cash money on your VL and your reply is "You don't understand, it's a VL thing"

Haha, I do miss my VL a lot, but then I don't miss being pulled over every 2 weeks by the police.

Sure We can work on finding you a mickey vl, for free!!!!
Seriously lazy effort here mate? Put in the time, and look at the wa gumtree section here, car sales, ct fore sales board and the quokka.

A vl that needs no work gets snapped up quickly, and you'll need to be prepared to look at a lot of VLs that really won't be road worthy for $3000. It's not impossible but unlikely that next $3000 vl you see will be cherry, but need some sort of work.

Good luck though bud

This one is neat but a little more than your talking, see if they do a deal for $5000?

No ^. Not a lazy effort, have been searching for 1 or so months checking gumtree everyday searching, I asked this forum, as most of you are experts on the topic therefore need a second opinion and recommendation. I know you're working off an assumption that I am 'lazy' but I really am not. I do appreciate your input though, thanks.

keep your eyes out bud Im one of the long term vl guys cant rid my self of the bug.
been working on my vl calais turbo for over 6 months now and it not road ready yet. got it for 3 grand. had to travel over 200 ks to pick it up as im in karratha. every other one ive had freighted. if you want a good one keep your eye out and search far and wide in the mean time start saving and be prepared to take the bus every now and then.

In short
Vls are quite reliable buy a spare cas (15 min job with basic tools), spare dizzy and replace all sensors.
If you dont do stupid **** eg timing above 20 BTDC or ask to much from it and service it every 5-7,000 ks and it will last years.

You don't buy a vl for a car no... you buy it for the thills and drama like a hot most hot chicks fun to ride around in for a few years but fk marrying them.

buy the 10,000 genuine ks on a VP Calais White/Silver i spotted on car sales it will last you 15 years !
