Rik don't have any diff gears. I'd try giving Michael a call at Mt George Wreckers up here cos they are cheap as and I know he's got at least 1 VL there.

FATPSI car went to the crusher ages ago so haven't got anything besides a tail light.

cheers matey - ive nver hurd of Mt George Wreckers but i'll track them down.

just a quik question. what diff ratios where you running in your while vl to get so low into the 12's.

Ive found the 3.7's to not be long enough in 4th.
im having to push it to 6000 rpm in 4th.. nearly 1000 rpm out of the power.:

Still running the stock 3:45's. I've actually thought about swapping to 3.7's but I don't think I'll bother as I'm putting my good motor and powerglide into the car later in the year. I think its good for a very high 11 as it is anyway.

ok so ive had one person tell me that a 3.45 pinion and crown wheel from a vl wont fit my 28 spline 3.7 r31 silo diff.

ive never done it but i thought it was an easy swop
they are the same diff - 78 BW, and the ratio's are close so the housing wont need to be changed

is this chap talking out his arse ? please tell me he is.

also where is the Mt George Wreckers - are they in invermay

haha - Cheers Ricko.

ive settled on a 3.08:1 from a auto vs-vr commy.

if there ratio drop is to much of a chnage then i will swop the 17" wheels for some 14" wheels for the drags.
atleased i wont be topping out in 4th at the 350 metre mark.

any thoughts on this ?

Cheers Ricko.

That will choke it to death Rik. Even my 3:45's are a little tall. I thought about 3:7's and I reacon they'd be perfect with my current power.

well the 3.7's with 17" wheels makes it 1000rpm too short in 4th gear.

my max power is at 5000rpm.

if it is to long then i will go back to 15" or 14" wheels
might need to find some 7" x 15" wheels for the drags ( 4 stud 114.3mm nissan pattern)

Whats the difference in rolling diameter between 14/15" and 17"? Surely it cant be that severe.

well when you think about the 3.7 to 3.08, its not that sevre.
3.08 turns of the tail shaft to 1 turn of the axel. its over half a turn of the wheel more

if you roll a 17" rim with tyre one turn and a 14" rim with tyre one turn then measure how far they have traveled, it would make for a good medium.

With 3.7:1 With 3.08:1
1st 55kmh 70kmh
2nd 95kmh 114kmh

this is still on 17" rims - its around 20% more from each gear.

you will lose alot of torque though.

i changed from 3.08 to 4.11, man that is a severe change lol

and depending on profiles ofcourse there is genereally no difference in rolling diameter between say 17's and 14's, unless your using a rediculously small profile on the 14's

to give you an example, my 15x205x65's are Exactly the same diametre as my 19x245X40's

i had the 3.08 in with 15" rims with 50 profile. very small
did a 12.60 on 205mm tyres

it was very close to the same as my 3.7 with 17" rims with 45 profile.

ive now got a 3.45 in and using the 17" its close the same ratio but with wider tyres.

anyone got any 16"'s or 17"'s by 8.5" wide in nissan 4 stud 114.3 ?
