rb30 turbo in vh

i am new to this so dont judge (harshly)

have a nice vh sle commy with stock 202 (gutless).

my mates bro has a written off vl calais turbo and is willing to sell the motor, trans, turbo, intercooler etc (motor and all that is still fine as it was chassis damage)

was just wondering if any one knew how to go about putting in the rb30 into my vh and would it be hard and would it even fit???

thanks

yeah it will fit u will need the cross member from the vl and u won't have to mess around with trying to mke mounts will bolt straight up the engine that is.. but u will need to modify the gearbox crossmember and probably a different tailshaft a vl one might fit not sure yet have not got that far on my car yet...and all the usual other things like wireing and the rest have fun but will be worth it in the end

as jba05 said yeh it is possible, and definately worth it but is a hell of a lot of effort and of all the cars me and my mates have messed with engine conversion this one has been the most of a f... around by far, ill try to explain the process to the best of my memory

things needed :

Vl K frame
Gearbox Crossmember
all powersteering lines
vl powersteering rack
vl steering shaft (the uni joint thing)
vl clutch master cyl and slave + pedal box
rb30 obviously + trans
now the gearbox crossmember ( crs make one it cost around $120 and uses a th350 gearbox mount to bolt to the rb30 trans
the tailshaft will not fit on a standard vh diff (could knock uni's out and change the mount on the end but not sure as to length differences) as the vl one is borg warner however some vh v8s came out with lsd borgies but most came out with sailisbury diffs best thing would be to get a turbo diff and mount it up and change your brake setup to rear discs

things that will mess with your head :

the pedalbox beleive it or not is an absolute ...ch to change i got a vk calais and the wires and coloum are all over the show, and it s..ts you to tears the amount of effort required... may well be a lot easier in avh as doesnt have as many wires ect, you also have to file out the hole the clutch cable sits in to accomodate for the new master cylinder

the k frame is ok but it helps to have a second person to line the rods up into the front of the frame the vl powersteering rack is needed because the k frame mounts are different and is a better unit anyways

gearbox crossmember as previously mentioned, in my opinion you should buy the crs one, the last thing you want to happen is the gearbox dropping out from underneath you when you give it a little,

and the wiring is gay an ecu pinout would be a great starting point but i suggest you get an aftermarket comp they are s...t loads easier to wire, im a sparky and i couldnt decypher the drawings in those stupid manuals and get the standard computer and loom to work, the starting and charging system is easy, and the fuel pump wouldnt work when it was wired as the manual said and the wires arnt identified correctly in the manual i.e 3 green wires which one is which,

and because youve got a vh im pretty sure youl need to change the fuel tank to a vk efi or vl one and add a retun line from engine bay to tank ... and fuel pump

hope this helps..

a mate of mine built an rb25det manual powered vh sl/e for a bloke who wrote it off like 2 weeks later, had the shmick smoothed bay, all wiring neat, everything powdercoated was really nice. They also used the vl steering setup and also a vl turbo exhaust modified to fit (3 inch). If you have any questions post them here and il ask him for you, even better i'm trying to get him his own account right now so he can himself lol

hey guys
i know this would have been covered alot before, but thought my situation my be a bit different.
ive decided to build up an RB30 to slot into the VH after ive had a bit of fun with the 202.

ill still be using strait gas and will be using my existing driveline (powerglide, VLT dif...) and would use an aftermarket ignition only ecu.

what would be a list of parts needed to complete the conversion?
im not keeping power steering or aircon also
would i be right in assuming id just need to change K frames, bellhousing and wire in the ecu?
thered have to be more to it lol so some help would be good!
cheers

oh ill also be using all aftermarket gauges so that will help a bit too

If you put a jatco auto in a VH you will need a VL speedo and wiring for it to work, some people have put the whole VL dash in.

decisions been made
its either i send the same amount of money building a tuff 202 or a tuff rb30. the rb30 will handle more power with more ease.
easy choice
