Yeah un-doing the nute first while the car is on the ground is the best thing to do.

But you going to need a rattle gun, sprng compressors and maybe even vice grips to clamp the shock tube...

The vl has a live axle setup, R33 has independant rear. An IRS conversion has been done to a VL but it took a hell of alot of work... So forget about the R33 diff idea...

Go and rip out a diff from an auto R31 or Pintara from the wreckers. Just strip it all down to just the housing and pay 60 bucks and be on ya way. Thats what I did

Not an easy job to do at home while the diff is in.

It took me about 3 or so hours to do a while centre swap. That was with crown wheel already on the replacement...

Steerting column needs to be dropped... But its still hard to un-do the bolts...

I ended up pulling the split pin from the rod that holds the pedals in and swapping the manual clutch and brake...

a little more gentle on the steering perhaps... steering too quickly will cause plenty of body roll which will then cause oversteer...
