View Full Version : Id just like to say, I HATE paint shops!
NZ VLTURBO 03-07-03, 19:44 It amazes me in all the dealings with panel and paint shops that I have had, every one has disappointed me. I havent had alot of cars painted, but my Walkinshaw that's getting painted at the moment is no exception. My brother and I searched around all the paint shops in my area and took it to the one we thought was the best. The owner of the shop seemed really keen, but so far it's sat in there for over a month and he hasnt even touched it yet. F#*kin wankers. I feel like pulling the pin on him. What do you guys think? The paint shops in Aussie must be better, cause I never hear you guys moaning about them!
^Mobil_HRT^ 03-07-03, 20:39 That sucks, I'd pull the pin.
yeah all paint shops are the same, thats why it's always good to go to someone you know and trust, or find a place that is really busy and has no room to store cars so they'll wanna get it out asap.
depends, if you just want a trespray or a quality job.
One of dads mates built a falcon GTO replica, sat in the pannel shop for something like 3 years or even a bit longer, they only worked on it when they had spare time so they didnt have to rush anything, needless to say that it came out looking like a million dollars.
If i were sprayin a walky i would rather wait a while than have it done in 2 or 3 weeks.
My 2 bobs worth
All comes down to if you wanna pay or have it done cheap. You don't want it rushed, so finding a place that will be cheap and take their time but yet still do a great job is near impossible....
If you want a great job, make sure the guy whos meant to be doing it isn't handing it to his apprentices...
What price bracket is this paint shop in, cheapo?, or pricey?
NZ VLTURBO 13-07-03, 18:52 Middle of the range I'd say. Still, they do have awards for best paint in a few shows so that is promising.
I went and saw him the other day. I was pretty happy with the panelwork he had done so I'm feeling a bit better now.
Plus he said he might want to put his name to it, so thats promising.
tell them that you are looking to put it into a few shows and that, you'll be amazed at the better dealing and quality you get from them.
It might get them to pull their finger's out of their arse's and consider it as good promotion for them that way.
Thats a load of crap! That exact same thing happened to me. i looked around for a good workshop. NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!!!!! I went in to this shop it had alot of cars, really nice ones outside went in and asked them bout a paint job and a kit and it was $3000 cheaper then anywhere else me being a young lad at the time and being my first car project i went for it. The car didnt get touched for a month and a half. Paint didnt arrive for 3 months and kit wasnt fitted properly and where they sanded the car it was starting to rust!. i finally blew my top and pulled the car out half finished and lost alot of money. I had it finished by a quiet little paint shop and he revealed that they painted right over the original paint the kit wasnt even bolted on just glued and was coming off. It was only a month after i took the cars out that i found out that the cars that i saw their were there threatening them because they f@#cked up there cars! the biggest lesson i eva learnt. Just be carefull i say!
hrmm there are good and badsides to having ur car there a long time..
yes u can say that the longer its there the better it'll come out afterwards cause it hasnt been rushed
but the longer its in there, the longer u dont have a car.. and longer its in there the more chances of somthin happening to it.. if u know wat i mean..
place mite go down the **** shoot, or burn down accidentally... with ur car inside !!
id be prepared to wait a month for a really good job.. but anymore than that.. they obviously aint workin on ur ride enough..
NZ VLTURBO 17-08-03, 13:37 We've got the Walky back now, and I have to say it was worth the wait as she looks stunning. The shop owner apoligised for take so long. Explaining that they ran into some unexpected problems. He said the cars front had been painted several times and the whole thing once before and they had used a primer called tetrasile whhich is a treat to paint over once disturbed, apparently. Also, he took out some small dents and riples in the body for no extra price.
All in all, we are very happy, and I'm taking my VL Calais V8 in for a tidy up soon.
P.S Ive sent some pics to be posted on Walkinshaw net so hopefully they will be up soon.
