View Full Version : RB25DET info
Hey, i am looking at getting this motor. Going to do a compression test on Wed, just wondering what compression do these motors run???
Also just a guess but are all RB25DET's a ceramic turbo, or are some different. Its just on some other motors i have seen they have a little ceramic badge on the inlet, but this one doesn't?? Not sure anything to worry about. Any info would be great!

sir calais 09-07-02, 07:29 comp ratio is 9.0:1 .... bloody high for a turbo motor I reckon.
sir calais 09-07-02, 11:53 does anyone know how to hook up the speedo drive to the r33 gearbox.
Yeh not completly sure myself. I believe that you can possibly use an adapter of an r31 or 300zx or something like that that coverst the electronic to cable.
RB30-POWER 09-07-02, 22:18 I was told a while back on the SDU forums that the senders in the gearbox will simply swap over from electric(R33) to manual/cable.(VL)
But i cant 100% guarantee that they do.

sir calais 10-07-02, 08:26 na it won't people have tried. you need to make something up for it to work. I'll be getting a r32 gearbox instead.
hey where abouts are you getting it from i going to do the same convertion on my calais. The cheaps motor, computer and gearbox man. was $3700
Yes all RB25det's have a ceramic wheel. Most people limit boost around 14psi.
calais to4 me 11-07-02, 20:32 u can use a vl turbo speedo drive set up on a r33 box ive done it.
all u need to do is weld a square piece of alloy in position, align the slave cylinder in the coorect position and ur away by the way r33 box is stronger than a r32 box . good luck :D
Actually i got it from Mark Gibbs Panel House at Slacks Creek. They import halfcuts for panels, etc. They happen to have this one there. Just came in. They dont do alot of them though.

the box is simmilar to the V6 navara .these have cable but on the left.
hey,
The wheels inside the rb25det turbos are not all ceramic. The series 1 r33 skylines were, but the series 2 rb25det turbos weren't, they had a plastic wheel. Series one i think is the 1993 and 1994. And series 2 is 1995......... (onwards).
Series 2 rb25det turbos can't be boosted over about 12psi.
RBUNIT - the turbine wheel is still ceramic but the compressor wheel is nylon instead of steel, helps spool-up time but is pretty weak.
sir calais 25-07-02, 10:44 Anyway one know any websites with info about prices and stuff on them for the rb25?
My mates was telling me that you can fit a Rb30et block on to Rb 25 et heads? What work would you need to do this if it is possible to do?And could you also do it with a Rb30 standard engine block?

this has been covered many times before but basically the head is a straight bolt on you will need a different belt for the cam (someone on here should know the number of it). you will most likely need aftermarket managment to run it properly and obviously will need rb25 manifolds etc. and probably aftermarket cams to take advantage of the extra cubes properly.
sir calais 25-07-02, 16:16 The belt depends on where you locate your idler and tensioner pully. Relocate them then ask for a belt.
