..about to buy new pistons for my RB30 turbo build.
I'm most probably getting ACL pistons and rings - anyone got a source with a good price for a set? I have a price from my machinist but thought I'd check around and try see if I can source them any cheaper myself first.
Also need a new harmonic balancer before I get all the internals balanced - where and how much?
just ordered mine , 20thou over size acl's with the ringset. $506.
i think a new fly , standard size is near on $110 , dont quote on that though.
they are cast right??
just checking.
this is what i want if i rebuild.
...yep, cast. Forgies are about 3x that price 8O
..$110 is for the balancer I assume - not the flywheel? A turbo flywheel costs a little more than that.
yeah thats for casties.
holde64 - i was talking about a fly , sorry , i dont even know why i wrote it , just misread ur question.
balancers are pretty expen$ive, cheapest way is to ring aroung and find someone who can do exchange balancer (repco etc), I think around $250 - #300 for exchange ones usually.
i picked up an acl engine kit incl +30 pistons for $580. maybe look at getting them ceraminc coated, bores don't wear and pistons hold up alot better to heat (but detonation will still kill em!!). not many ppl do it but in the racing world its fairly common practice. just a thought.
I have ACL pistons, if you can save the extra cash get forgies for piece of mind, i'v melted two pistons really quick, and the ACL ring sets have a large end gap clearence, which does give a fair bit of blow-by even if you tighten up the clearences in the bores. If you get the pistons, don't get the ring set, go for a total seal gapless ring set, the ACL end gap is too big for a boosted engine from my experiences. hope it helps. :D
Use genuine nissan rings, they are better than anything else.....period, NO real race engine builder runs Total seal rings anymore......they don't work, It's a long story explaining how rings help to make power, but a leak down test is the only thing that Total seal improve and that has nothing to do with being under load at 6000 rpm. They are the biggest scam to hit the market.........Yes, I am serious.
