View Full Version : Walkinshaw Owners - Weddings/Formals
Just wanted to check if there were any other Walkinshaw owners in SYdney (preferably West) that would be interested in doing weddings, formals etc. A good excuse for a weekend drive and a little cash on the side. Let me know.

Just letting everyone know about an issue that I was warned about when I used to use my car for weddings...
I was told that limo and hire-car places that provide cars for weddings, etc, have to follow really strict controls and checks on their vehicles, as well as paying large licensing fees. I have an FX Holden that I used to use for weddings (back in the days when it looked good), and I was warned that if the limo and hire-car companies thought I was taking too much of their business then they would kick up a stink because I was using my car as a business while not paying the fees and following the controls.
It never really stopped me though. Our early Holden club here used to get many enquiries from people wanting FX/FJ wedding cars. To avoid any ill-repute to the club we would say "Sorry, we're not allowed to do that... but here's a few contact numbers of people with cars. Give them a call and you may be able to arrange something with them".
That system worked well, because although we never ran the risk of advertising the availability of the cars anyone who wanted to use them would naturally contact the Holden club. And I can't remember any of us ever being hassled with any legal problems. I never used to earn huge amounts of money from doing it, but they car basically paid for it's own rego and insurance each year which was great.
I just wanted to say that if you're going to do it, keep a low profile.
Although my FX isn't in good enough condition any more to still do weddings, my Walky is! I think it's a great idea and I know there's a couple more here in Townsville whose owners may think the same. V8s cost a lot to register here in Qld - the money would come in very handy.
Interesting info that, top stuff.
see the vl convertable ? hehe -
Im sure a low key word-of-mouth gig every now and then wouldn't attract too much attention.
One thing that wasn't mentioned is that if your doing well enough, the tax office might want a piece of the action as they do :x
