has anyone had any experience making the rb30et a dual cam? using the rb20det head? it sounds like a great idea, and from what i gather, somewhat simple, im seriously considering this change over, just wondering if anyone else has.
been looking at the rb25 head on the rb30 recently. seems worthwhile but quite expensive. probably better than the rb25det conv though im not really sure. lots of factors involved... :?
street commodores did an article ages ago and the rb25 was the was to go, with better flow from the start. the rb 20 head flowed less than the rb30. i have been in a vl with rb 20det and it absolutely flew, so you never know, it may work!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm in the middle of doing this conversion now. The best (easiest to fit) head is the RB25DE non variable cam timing. You can use the RB20 or RB25 turbo exhaust manifold to mount your turbo or custom make one.
The RB20 head is not a direct fit onto the RB30 block and requires a LOT of modification to make it fit.

Got stacks of info on RB25/30 combo, even part no's etc for parts req'd.
I've got a RB30det...
Used the RB25det head (twin cam vvt)... The VVT is disabled, and I'm running the motor with GTR cam gears, GTR cams and GTR Valve springs.
S@$t load of work to do, but the power you gain from it is awesome!

Matt,
Um i know if u use GTR cams then the VVT is gone but did u just plug the oil feed into the head that the RB30 block doesn't have?? cos if u did your front inlet cam bearing wont have oil :( It's got it own gallery, a welch plug devides it from the main! I hope u know this and your cam is as slippery as my d!<% after a GOOD night out 8)
