While I don't know the mixing ratios, What I do know is Toulene is used to cut petrol by dodgey independent service stations and I have heard if you spill it on your paint when filling up it eats the paint away as it is very similar to a paint thinner, it will also chew rubber hoses away.
So I hope you get the mix right otherwise it may damage some part of your car.

My mate uses Toluene on the occasion. Usually mixed 1 part Toluene to 4 parts BP Ultimate. Has been using it for over a year now, no signs of wear and tear...... yet :?: His supplier has also been using it for a lot longer on his RS Liberty import, haven't heard any major dramas from him either. I'm not really convinced as yet that its totally safe to use long term.

this might sound stupid, but toulene is used to cut the petrol? is the octane content higher or lower than synergy or optimax?

hehehe methyl benzine .... get the face mask out and make sure you wear gloves!!!! :D Also very good ****, apparently a ratio of 1:10 will see an increase of approximately 2 RON.

Methyl Benzine - aka Paint Thinner. I put 20lt of it into an empty 60lt tank and topped the rest off with BP Ultimate.
Been told the octane rating is anywhere from 106 RON to 110 RON.

Definately wear gloves and face mask too and make sure you dont spill any in the car. I had a headache for about 10 hrs after I applied the stuff to the tank and spilled a little bit in the boot. I think I know why my short term memory has been a bit funny lately. :D

Whats the go with Toulene, I mean they use that and benzine to make Ultimate fuel with a higher RON rating (yes, petrol companies do this to make 98 octane stuff) but how is it different from Meth/Benz?

More to the point, what is toulene? Is it a carsenigin like Meth/benz?

Yep Toluene is carcinogenic as well and trace amounts can be found in tobacco smoke.I suspect that the corossive nature of Methyl Benzine might be greater than Toluene??? Don't know the chemical differences between the two, or if they are related to eachother.

I get mine from Autobarn in the paint section. Price will depend from store to store. Shouldnt cost more than $45 for a 20lt drum. I get mates rates so I wont post my price.

Read the Octane Bosot thread in general discussion first as all this is discussed there as well, along with my *ahem* legal disclaimer.

I remember ages back in an old ZOOM magazine there was a silver VL calais turbo that had a seperate fuel injector on his IC pipe just for Toluene( with a little tank to hold it in).
I wonder how he managed to only inject the right mixture in. All up he had two extra injectors which would make it a 7:1 ratio for the toluene.
(Hmm the mind boggles :| )

i was once looking at buying a vl turbo that used to run around the gold coast with the number plates [MYT16] (Mighty 6)... ran a low 11 on the 1/4 mile - had to use toluene when using the higher boost setting (24psi)... didnt end up buying it though - didnt have the cash, and if i did, it was gonna be my only car to drive around in... lol...

MYT16 - thats a guy called Goran. The VL was his old old car. He sold it (kept the plates I think) and bought an R32 skyline. A guy came up to me a while ago and offered to buy my VLT off me, said he was Gorans brother in law after he dropped the name MYT16. Small world.

If anyones been reading Street Commodores for a few years, he a had a Candy Apple Red VL Calais Turbo with full Walky kit on it. Was photographed down the Gold Coast. Cant remember what issue it was but it was a few years back.

Just a quick update. Turns out Toluene and Methyl Benzine are the exact same thing. Says on on the side of the drum of Meth/Benz I bought today "100% Toluene".

cheers.

Sweet ..so they're exactly the same thing...... so I guess I'll be wearing the gloves and a face mask regardless of whether I choose to use Toluene or Methyl Benzine from now on :P

Found another cool thing at Autobarn today. Its a hose that you stick in the drum and stick in your fuel filler mouth, pump the hose up and down really quick and it syphons the drum into your tank without you having to get the crap on your hands or breathe it in. I borrowed one off my friend down at AB, it emptied the 20ltr drum of Meth in under 2 minutes. They are fairly simple devices too. Cost about $25 depending on what size hose you get.

When I buy one I'll post a photo of it.

it looks like a bit of hose with a metal plug in the end that has a ball in it

I've had a couple under the house for years, great for when your car runs out of fuel in the driveway.

Ahh yes the "wonder jiggler"
The old man bought back in 86 or 87 at a boat show, the best syphon on the market I reckon.
