You know the AAC valve for the idle, ok whe i disconnect the plug to adjust idle to 650 +-50 and put it back on the idle comes up to the normal 700 or so...
When im at idle with the conector on as normal, the idle seems to be, not erratic but slightly up and down (just enough to feel it) I wouldnt call it a rough idle, but its weired. And sometimes when i take the AAC connector off to check it with a tacho again, it seems to make no diff and doesnt drop back down to 650 or so, it stays at 700-730. I have checked the voltage coming out of the conector , its about 12 volts or so, and i have jiggled it to see if there is a bad connection.... there doesnt appear to be. I dunno what the F@$K is going on, but i can never seem to get the idle right.
Anyone know what it might be? cause its giving me the ****s  PLZ HELP

Could anyone check the voltage coming out of this connector and let me know if its approx 12 volts.

there is a heap of factors that vary idle speed with AAC connected, It should be around 650 with it out it connected though, but this should vary with engine temp and other environmental factors, the AAC with input from the ECU will then then adjust this base speed with respect to varying temp, air con load, battery voltage, cold start etc, I wouldnt worry bout it too much so long as it idles smoothly somewher between 900 and 500. Ive never seen a VL with an idle that didnt move around a bit

cool, the thing thats weired is but, you know when you take the connector off (if you adjust the idle) normally the idle should drop to about 650 or so, well sometimes it does not make any difference, like if its still connected , other times it does drop back to 650...

The idle isnt terrible, maybey im just paranoid hehee.

make sure engine is up to proper operating temp (take it for a spin) and then see if it hangs aroung 650, other than that I'm all out of ideas :)

by the sound of it you are just unplugging the aac when the engine is on?

i guess it really shouldnt make a huge differance but the correct way to do it is to start the motor, let it warm up, then turn it off and unplug the aac. then start it again and check the idle is 650 +/- 50rpm. turn off, plug AAC back in, start again, and use the screw on the ECU to get it to 750 +/- 50rpm.

there are lots of other factors that can affect the idle. for example when my head was cracked the speed would constantly go up and down 100rpm. dont ask me why but it stopped after doing the head.

Hey Guys,

Its been a bit quiet at work, so i decided to go out to the car and pull off the AAC valve and take a look. It consists basically of a solenoid, which pulls the main pin in and out of the IAA unit. Anyway, to explain why my idle sometimes didn’t change when I disconnected the AAC wiring, it appears to be due to the Pin was stuck in the IAA unit (build up of crap over the years), and not able to be pulled out by the solenoid. I pulled it out with pliers, cleaned it and sprayed some WD-40 on it (especially clean the little valve on the end of the pin)... All seems to be more consistent now.

Give it a go, it seemed to work for me :)

Cheers

pete
thats excactly what i told a heap of ppl to do , after i pulled the unit from ur manifold apart , it was dirty , so i cleaned it up for ya. you shall see.
congrats vl grunt ur the 2nd other person (me and you) hehe that i know who have done it and fixed probs. i know 2 ppl who i said to do this and they said i was a wanker and it wont do ****. i suggest everyone do it , just as a maintenence thing.

Thats it OVL087!! its something ya dont really think of, but when you actually think about what role it plays in your idle, well thats what motivated me. When I pulled it out, it was all chunked up with like black gunk carbon ****, I cleaned it with wd-40, but also wanna pull it off to clean properly at home with some of that Nulon carbi cleaner. That **** is perfect for that kinda thing, and it wont hurt the intake at all, if anything it will clean it hehehe

The guys that called you a wanker for suggesting it as a possible problem sound the typical "i know ****ing everything bro" kinda wankers...

Now that I got that out i feel much better :D
Cheers all!
