Whats the highest speed youve been caught doing and what sort of fine / punishment did you cop?

87 in a 60 - 270 dollar fine 4 points. Loss of P's - 3 months suspension.

And the other night a mate got done 92-60 - 350 dollar fine 6 points. He's going to contest it because its only one km off the lesser bracket.

Edit: the night I got done I had only just got the car back, so it was seeing speeds around 150 (highway driving) before I came in to a big empty roundabout, booted it. Flicked the rear out, accelerated up a hill and slowed down. They got me coming over the hill at 87. I believed more like 70or so. But they showed me the gun.

got caught doing well the cop said 150 in a 110 zone on the hume hwy nsw (moss vale) but he put 130 on the paper $565 and 4 points but the funny thing is i still have 12 points on my licence very strange

Was doing 112 in a 70 zone on my bike late at night... Was supposed to be $350 and 6 points, but the cop took 2km off and it became $250 and 4 points, was the week i got my 850 (and i'm still on my P's)
Also was doing 160km in a 70 zone (actually same place and late at night) and was let off... i would have lost my licence and being on my P's i would have had to go through all the licence bullsh!t again!!!

well, I was "almost" caught doing 180 on the wrong side of the road coming back from Nagambi in Vic, I was in my Small Block Statey and a VL wouldn't move over so I gunned it, overtook the snail and continued to floor it past some others when all of a sudden I see 2 cop cars, one on the right side and one on the left, both pulled over booking other cars - what could they do????

I would hate to have "copped" that fine!!!!!! Some days you're just lucky!

and just recently my court case was completed i was charged with dangerous driving for skating 3 lanes of traffic in front of an undercover TMU car, leaving 59 metres worth of marks, my license is now cancelled for 6 months and i got a court fine of $575.

Also now i have lost all my points on my license so theres another 3 months on top of that!!

adn they think im guna catch public transport? *dreamers*

a mate of mine got done doing 139km/h in a 50 zone... he was on a conditional liscence (couldn't lose any points for 6 months), as he has already lost it twice. will go to court soon, will keep you guys updated

on the way to schoolies on the pacific highway, i was doing 180 in fourth, and the was a copper on the otherside of the highway doin radar checks, MAN! did i **** myself! i drove the speedlimit the whole way to byron from there...

Thankfully i didn't get caught but i was doing 110km/h in an 80 zone and a cop drove past the other way, i slammed the brakes on and went down to 80 by the time he passed me. NExt thing i see him flick his falcon around and come screaming up behind me. By this stage i'm ****tin myself so i slow down to 70 expecting the lights to come on. He stayed literally an inch off my bumper bar until the lanes split up in two. He then pulled up next to me and with his fingers he pulled them close and told me i was this ****ing close. He knew i was speeding obviously by the frount of the car bogging down under the brakes but he didn't have the rader going when he first went past. Thinking about it now i should have slammed the brakes on when he was so close behind me immitimidating me. It would have been his fault and i would have got a new rear end.

115 in a 60 zone. after the camera operation was outsourced to civvie mob. luckily for me the guy must have had too many cones,, he wrote WB ute one the paper. got off scot free, but the bitch copper says shes gonna watch me, and she did too. used to see her at least every other day when i was cruisin around.

well in first 6 months of my licence i got pulled over on Williamstown road going into chapel following a mate doing 110 in a 60 zone. lost 6 points, $360 fine and 4 month suspension. copper said we were lucky he didnt take us to court for "street racing" lol.
in that 4 months of no licence i deliverd pizzas and needed money so i drove without a licence and went to court lost it again for 1 month and $765 fine.
Got it back again but lost all my points, chose to keep it under a conditional licence of running the risk of losing it for 6 months. ended up loosing another point for doing 4 kays over one time in a hurry and lost it for that 6 months.
Ive now got it back and havnt had a speeding fine yet. TOUCH WOOD.

64 in a 60 zone, $125 and 1 point i think it was. The stupid thing about it was it was an unmarked car on the side of the road, I knew straight away what it was a cop. I was doing about 80 so I quickly slowed down to exactly 60 and went past it, but it still flashed. That's when I found out that my speedo was out. This was when I had the R31.

Just last night I got pulled over for "lurking". I was driving home and I saw my brother was walking home, so I stopped in the middle of the road to pick him up, there were no other cars around, except a cop that saw me as I started going again.

About 8 yrs ago I got done doing 120 in an 80 and also ran a red light.
Got for 4 speeding plus lost license for a month plus got 3 for the redlight.

total bill was about $500

Funny thing is the cop told me he thought he had a chase on his hands and I laughed at him.

i lost my license 3 times in 4 yrs when i first got my license. almost a 4th but i fought this one in court and had a great debate with the judge and got to keep my license phew..only person on that day according to the clerk lol. umm got done for 156 on the highway not long after. spun the cop a story about my missus being in labour as she was preggas and he gave us an escort to the hospital were he still wrote out the fine but said due to the reason of my speeding I could write a letter to the super intendant of traffic and ask for the fine to be waived. A foolscap and a half later with references to the doctors at the hospital i gave to the super who in his good heart (heh) decided to waive the fine and i got off .

at was just after i got a new car, and i was getting used to it, it didnt sit on 60 very well, and crept up to 80 all the time.....
also its a bit of an adjustment to make going from a thrashed to hell 202 VH, to a mint VR 3.8L.....
and i still have my license...... for now... going to court soon.

road near me goes from 80-60-80kmh, the 60kmh bit is only about 30m long as its near a congested area, was flogging my old Celica through there (obviously speeding) and flash! got caught doing 110kmh in the 60 zone the fine was going to be $650 with 9points. I thought, "thats a bit harsh, better go look at the photo and see if i can fluke it". Went in, and had a look, all you could see was the number plate, the rest of the car was INVISIBLE as it was a dark nite w/ rain. Told the policeman it was someone test driving my car as it was for sale - said to write out a statutory declaration and "see what happens".

2 years later, no points gone, no fine in the letterbox :)

I got done on The Horsley Drv Fairfield umm i think its a 60kmh zone i was doin 110kmh on my red P's had 1 point left from my last fine only have 4 points on my p's and got $1515 fine and lost 7 points and 9 months suspened license i just got my license back on the 28th of Feb 2004.

i got a life again and now im back on the road with a VL CaLAIS TURBO.

i got pulled over today in a 90 zone. the passenger cop gets out to give me a rbt, meanwhile the driver cop gets out and goes " are you aware of the speed limit?" i reply " yeah it is 90." he says " i clocked you at 110 with my speedo." i say " i was doing 90, my speedo said 90". he checked my rego and looked around a bit and let me off. i asked them to do 90 for me so i could follow and see if my speedo was out and he said no. he told me to just compensate. i think he was bull****ting. it must be pretty unlikely to get off at 20kph over the limit. i did 10 less than the speed limit the rest of the way home and everyone was overtaking me, so i think he was bull****ting.

I'm reasonable sensible... and i'm very very good at spoting camera.

and i'm also very good and talking my way out of stuff, i once talked myself out of a reckless driving charge. It's all about body language..... if you get out of the car when ur pulled over, and use correct body language and DONT argue with the pig, and obey his every instruction, and belittle yourself and make him feel big. U'll get off alot more than u can imagine!

I get the rest of my points back in a just over a month, but then again I haven't been driving a cop bait to lose any more :p

All these were before they brought in the new penalties not that long ago. Hopefully i can manage to get off my p's with out having them extended again.

I to have had pretty ****ty luck, caught 4 times within 1.5 years but at no real serious speeds. My worst was 86 in a 70 zone, 3 points and $150.

My mate got caught 2 fridays ago going along becketts rd. I was in the car with him and police were going the opposite way, they couldn't turn for ages so we didn't think they would turn round, just over 3 k's later we see sirens. He got done 132 in a 70 zone, $700 fine and 8 demerit points. We were caught around the corner from his house, the coppers were not impressed.

I was running late for work one arvo and decided to give the car a little squirt up the highway(100) and ended up sitting on 140 (bloody idiot) next thing a guy in an au(not a cop car) started to tail gate me so I styed on 140 to see if he would back off but he didn't. Did this guy wants a race? Not sure, then the next thing I had another glance in the rearview and he was flashin his lights and there it was, up in the passanger side of the windscreen he was holding a police clipboard!! oh no! I pulled over and he came running at the car I wound down the window and all I could hear was: BLAH BLAH SPIT SPIT BLAH BLAH SPIT you know what i mean this cop was going absolutely feral at me! after a 45 min lecture about how he had scraped people like me from trees and roads he took my licence number and said that if i got any tickets or warnings within the next 6 months I will be sorry. The cop turned out to be the deputy commisioner of the tasmanian police( I guess that he was stressed by all the yelling that he did)! oh and I have never had a speeding ticket:D

My Story I
I received a speeding fine 3 weeks ago, for 15kmh over which is 3 points and $207.
The fact is I was not speeding! I was doing 50kmh in a 50kmh zone. This is happening more and more around my area, and it’s really starting to get on my nerves.

This happened on a Sunday night around 9:00pm. I was exiting a round about, taking a left hand bend which had an approx 5metre rise up a small hill.

Even if my speedo is out due to 18inch rims, when I came around the left hand bend the officer was standing in the middle of the road signalling me to pull over. Firstly, he couldn’t see me (but could hear me) due to the degree of the corner and secondly, when I did come around the corner he was no where near his radar, he was standing in the middle of the road waiting for me.

So apart from denying the fact that I was speeding and arguing that he was lying, the mistake is, the numberplates that the officer wrote down on the fine are totally different numberplates to mine.

I have talked to my lawyer and she has advised me to write a letter, because if he can’t get my numberplates correct while I’m being booked, how can he possibly get my correct speed which was apparently 69kmh around a left hand bend with a slight rise.

My Story II

This happened last weekend early Saturday afternoon. I was driving down a fairly steep hill into town doing 60kmh in a 60kmh zone (knowing for a fact that police sit at the bottom with their radar at least three times a week).

As I came down the hill, I could see them on the side of the road, one on the radar another standing next to him looking through the traffic. As soon as he saw my car, he pointed at me to pull over. This time I had a witness with me, my older cousin. The officer walks over and asks me why I was doing 76kmh in a 60 zone. (just over 15kmh).

I replied, “Well as a matter of fact officer I know for a fact I wasn’t speeding, I saw you from the top of the hill.” The officer said that the radar had clocked me at 76kmh and that’s that. He walked off wrote the fine and came back to my window and told me that I was lucky and that he only booked me for speeding less than 15kmh above the speed limit.

That was it I’d had enough!! I blew up, “What the f*ck for, I wasn’t speeding in the first place!! You pointed me out because I have a nice car, simple as that…”

He walked off back to his fellow officer. I sat their for a couple of minutes to compose myself, got out of the car and walked straight up to him, (making sure I blocked the radar, just to be a nuisance) and asked him to prove the fact that I was speeding, and then I would accept the fine. He couldn’t prove it!!
I’m taking the matter to court and I’ll keep you all updated.

All this in three weeks, and i'm not the only one...

maybe try to calibrate your speedo with someone else (who has an accurate speedo). your speedo may be out. mine is.

was doing 142k's they reckon, at the time my license was suspended, and got in to a chase but they couldnt get me, back then had a twin turbo supra and got chased by a red xr8 AU ppl around my aerea would know who drive that car, and a commodore couldnt make it out if it was a SS. got home pulled up in the drive way, and i was talking on the phone for about, max 2mins, they rocked up in my drive way, 14 months extension to my suspension wich was for 2 months, and $1100 fine.

I was in the city and a sti pulled up next to me. It had exhaust and had gauges everywhere. So I thought ill give him a run. Just before the lights go green this guys crawling forward. (obviously cant launch his manual) So I have to start from 2 car lengths back. Lights go green and this guy sling shots off. I built up to 60ks and started on my pursuit off traction. This guy was quick took me till around 140 150 to pass him. This thing was so loud I could barely here my engine and I have a screamer pipe and it was only when I got ahead of him I could make out the radar detector going off. I brake hard back to 60ks as was 60 zone and pretend to be a granny. About 20 seconds later I can make out the flashing lights in the rear view mirror. Sure enough he pulls me over. He comes running to the car and says "do you know how f***ing fast you were going," So I told him look probably 70k. He shows me the radar and says more like 170ks smart ass and sure enough on the display 178 is showing. Congratulations he tells me you just made the papers with that effort. said he heard me from 1klm away. So Ive gone listen to my car giving it a rev. How can you hear this from a kay away. (I have a big muffler very quiet untill boost then it screams) Did you see that blue wrx cane down the street. He said no. I said you obviously heard him as my car isnt loud at all. If you hurry youll probably catch him. He looked at me and goes back to the car and tells the media it was a false alarm and took of up the road.

Moral of the story radar detectors save cash.

This guy i know got clocked at 200km/h in a 50 zone. Had to sell his VS 355 Stroker to pay the fine. Whats worse he was over the limit aswell.... Think he lost his license for 2 years.

Well i got caught late last year in a 60zone doing 182km coz i just got my stage3 shift kit in the vlt :) and coped the worst fines $1200 and -8 demerit points i lost them for 1yr&1/2 and still waitn :P~~~~

Are radar detectors legal?

I thought id answer a few questions for you guys. No radar detectors are not legal. Apart from WA. If you invest in a decent one they have stealth mode and are basically undetectable. Nothings 100% though. How many of you guys worry about whats legal when your modifying your vehicle. eg Rims too big, too low, blow off valve, bigger turbos, plenums, ecus, cams coolers you get my point. Just by running a pod filter with no box can get you a $1000 fine from the epa. (Yes im sure) I know most of you will fail any form of emmission testing too. I personally cant put a price on my licence. Id rather run the risk of a fine for a radar detector then get caught doing 180ks, making the papers,losing my job and losing my licence. I just dont see why you guys are worried about is it legall when we all drive the most popular vehicle for illegall modifications which is also the most hunted by the police, The allmighty vl turbo. But this is my own opinion, to each his own i suppose.

My dad (from WA) rode his Kawasaki over to Melb a couple of years ago for the MotoGP's and got flashed as 3km over the limit, so Vic Roads or watever you call them sent him a fine (to Perth) for $150 and I think 1 point!!!

It was about 4 years ago now, cos i got my 6 points back last year!
I was in my BMW 323i E30 Coupe.. 18" Works Wheels - back when 18's were Bling Bling! :D

Long story short - 3 cars, Me - my mate - some random. Lights go green and my mate and the random take off.. Typical Trafic Light Wars.. I wasn't gonna race cos it was Friday night, heading into the city, and didn't feel like strapping the small 6 banger.. But I wasn't going to get left behind either.. anyways, about 1 k down the road (sorta hilly road) I could only just see the tail lights of the two cars in front... Then i saw the flashing lights coming up behind me.. and i glanced down - yep, I was doing about 130ish in an 80... The cops flew straight past me! Blah Blah Blah... The cops pulled over the Random, and my mate tried to do the runner, but a cop jumped out of the copcar and stopped the random while the other copper gave chase to my mate.. Me? Well coming down the hill, i see a copper on foot - he's not gonna stop me! So i turned left and followed the cop car! Just up infront - he pulled over my mate! So i took a right turn just before I reached them! And did the runner!!

2 weeks later, I got stopped at a random breath test & RTA setup... I denied everything for about 15 minutes.. then when he said, "your gonna have to follow us down to the station where your going to have to report exactly where you and this car was on the night in question.. and if found guilty, we will not only get you for speeding, we will get you for Racing, Wreckless Driving, Evading Police and Lying to the Police... " "Ill give you one more chance" and i cracked! DOH!!
Back then the beemer stood out like dogs balls.. It was dark blue, with black tint, chrome bumpers & window surrounds, big chrome wheels.. very pimp! :D so yeah, the cop said they had been looking for me for the past 2 weeks!

Next time - Ill stick to my guns and keep my mouth shut! They couldn't have proven ****!

oh, and then to top it off, The cop said id get the fine in the mail... I said Can I Go?? And he said "I think the RTA want a word with you!" DEFECT for the Tint, Steering Wheel (Billet - too shiny??) and the wheels to big..

In a way its good.. cos after paying a $1400 fine, now when I get a $150 it seems like nothing! lol...

haha you can say that again, each year I hand over my whatever amount of dollars to register my car, then I go for a drive and I may aswell purchase a 4wd to get over some of the bumps and potholes around.

Lol, i should, but like Aus880 said its a waste of the courts time and i know what its like to have to take a full day off work just to attend court. I'm only interested in getting off the fines. Fair enough if i get caught speeding i'll be the first to admit it. But the fact that i knew i wasn't speeding really pissed me off! In regards to Vlred's comment, i have already calibrated my speedo with a brand new commodore - 60 = 65km - 70 = 80km - 85 = 100km approx.

Got done this afternoon for the first time. In a school zone, school had finished an hour ago and i went through there cause it was deserted at 65km/h. Cop was there behind a parked car and got me. 3 points i have lost (i'm on my P's) and i got a $203 fine.

School zones are very sketch, and cop disgression is even more sketch these days. I think my speeding fine history is rather bland compared to some of the other members' here though!

268kpm on 100kpm zone free way. i got a 5 grand fine. 168kpm over is lose of lience. Then the cop said open the bonnet.Then things start going good. He said how much u spent on the engine i said around 15 grand. we were talkin for like 15 mins about my car and modz. he was a young cop into cars n all. Then he sayz if u let me have a drive of ur Holden BT-1 ill undertake all fines and canarys. i go yer go 4 it. i jumped in with him. he goes but the boost to full i was playin wif the boost controller and put it on 31psi. he was revin in it the spot like he didnt believe it. then he dumps it a 4000rpm slams 2nd,3rd,4th still wheelspinin and slamed 5th doin around 270kpms then another cop pulls us over. The cop who had pulled us over said he could hear the CHO CHO CHO oh changing gears from 3 blocks away. then u wont believe it the other cop jumps in the cop car and came next 2 us. he said try and catch me. i never thought some cops were ***ed in the head. then i said is that enough the engine is gettin hot and he goes no no its not gettin hot dis that. then he pulled over and i jumped in the drivers seat and showed him how 2 drive. i took him back to his cop car and he goes rip a nice burnout. ThERE i GO VVVVVSSHHHHHHHH CHO CHO VVVVVSSSSHHHHH CHO VVVVVVVVSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH CHO CHO CHO and just took off. and the cop goes if u get pulled over just tell the cop u know me. i got him name n all and it works. 2 nights ago i got caught 2 burnouts in my court and i said i knew officer wroblewski and they are oh k carry on .

Well I dont think mine rate as high as some already posted.
i got done 10 days after gettin my P's doing about 140 in 100 zone towing a boat in the old mans patrol. cop was all good about it done me for the minimum fine 1point. (cant remember exactly) so i watched my speed the rest of the trip was very cautious from then on till i got my second one which was on a road where the speed limit changes at least 16 times in a 20 minute trip i didnt see the sign fo it to reduce from 90 - 70 i got done 87 in a 70 3 points and a fine. so i was like get bent thats not fair at all (i went down the next day and i still didnt find the sign that reduced it to 70 at that point. but i figured going to court was too much hassel bugger it and stupidly copped it.) then i got pulled up at dovo 24 hour maccas (next to cars clearly unroadworthy) they canaried me (doing the right thing being designated driver dropping freinds home from clubbin) they got me for condensation in my left headlight condensation in my left indicator and my steering wheel they thought may not have been ADR compliant they made me get a full roady then a week later on my way home from playing indoor soccer with a few guys from work i got pulled up out of a servo and told "What the **** are you doing drag racing" im like man im not dragging any one im filling my car up with petrol and going home. then i was told if he ever catches me or the ****head in the HQ that i was racing (i still have no idea what he was talking about) that he would take me off the road and take my licence off me. funnily enough 2 - 3 weeks later officer radar eye booked me for alledgedly travelling at 130-140 in an 80 zone (funny enough right oppisite the petrol station from earlier) when asked to see the speed on the radar i was told i couldnt i was like so how when i say im doing 80 cna u say im doing 140. there responce cause we could hear you coming. I guess that fact that i was in 3rd cause 4th and 5th in that gear box were ****ed along with a 3" exhast might have given the impression that i was giving it a boot in the guts. but this resulted in 12 months suspension and 480$ fine and 8 point well i took that one to court in the mean time i got booked in dads 328i motorsport coupe for not having P plates 3 points and not having my licence on me $50 so i went to court with a history that said id lost 15 points in 13 months i was practically laughed at and given the 12 months and $480 plus court fees. only to get a letter saying due to my excessive number of points its exteended by 3 months. grrr oh well 10/15 months completed so far and when i seell my VL i'll be able to start on project KE25 corolla with rb25det ;)

Wel ur actually quite lucky u live in aussie... cos in NZ u'd have no licence now! If ur 50Kph over the speed limit it's an instant loss of licence! Im mean Fcuk i just lost control of my car and didnt do anyone any harm really, and i got stung wit a $600 fine!

Might make u feel a little beta knowing u've still got a licence!

bloke up here they have to show u the radar, they u have to admit to the speed, got of a many time when they say we got u at 85 in a 60km/h zone asked to see the Radar, and nothing, then asked them exactly how long they had been following me, not long at all, don't admit don't get fined, once u admit to speeding u are screwed, I now know the coppa that used to pull me over on my bike, he hated it when i wouldn't admit!

Coming home the other night, turned right at a green arrow and had a EF falcon coming the opposite direction turn into the same road cut right in front of me.
Choice 1 : slam the brakes, sit behind the **** head.
Choice 2 : use right hand pedal in left hand lane before it runs out.
I chose choice 2 - got around the corner and this EF Falcon comes up the wrong side of the road and pulls in front of me - thinking this guys got a serious case of road rage i put it in reverse as he got out of his car in a hurry - just about to reverse back and then run over this ****er and out comes a police badge !!
This guy was fuming, identified himself as an off duty cop - his rank sounded like some high-up dude. asked me why I ran a red light, squeeled my tyres, undertaking, speeding, and driving in a dangerous manner... told him politely that I didn't run a red light - he said my side was red, so yours must have been aswell - to which I explained what a green arrow means. Then appologised for being an idiot for going for Choice 2 (see above). He had a look at my licence and told me he would take my details down just to say that he had spoken to me and then let me go after making sure I was gonna "drive safely".
He drove off to the nearest bottle-o as I headed home.

As for past offences - 6 x Speeding (15 - 30 over, $135 ea, 3 points ea). Took one of these to court and got off cause the cop put the incorrect car colour on the ticket. 1 x Driving a car that does not comply to ADR's (Blue park lights, 1 point, $75), 1 x Crossing double continuous lines (friend was about to piss himself in the back seat after picking him up after drinking, $135, 3 points). 1 x Parking in a set-down zone for more than 2 mins *chuckle* - $30, no points. and 1 x loss of licence - 3 months.

Havent been done for speeding in over 2 years (ever since I got a HUD actually).

Well I was in my Escort and went past a cop in a side street doin' 80 in a 60 zone. He comes after me, I overtake a car on a corner(!!!) go under another turning right and eventually pull up at my mates house. Now his mum is usually at work and I was going to go into the garage. But she had a sickie didn't she. Sit down and wait .....2 mins later,a knock on the door. My mate answers it and the cops want to see the driver of the red Escort out the front. They asked me to step outside and I refused. They asked a few times but I refused everytime 'till they grab me by the arm and say "your under arrest". I was only 19 at the time and thought WTF???
Any ways in court I got loss of liscense for 3 years and $600 fine. I went straight to the bike shop and bought a new pushy. I was going to need it. I was a mgr with Coles at the time and they were not amused. I learnt my lesson after driving to Winton from Sydney in a street sedan RX 4 and racing a falcon coming into Golbourn doing 220ks+ and went past a cop going the other way. They didn't stop but I was sh1tting myself.
