View Full Version : twin throttle bodies giantbrandon 07-12-03, 17:15 just wondering how the twin throttle bodies work if they both open at the same time or, as you give it more throttle the second one opens and how they work together thanks giantbrandon 07-12-03, 17:16 sorry wrong section can be shifted giantbrandon 26-12-03, 16:16 anybody StockyMcStock 27-12-03, 00:40 nah man they are usually connected by the hinge, so they both open at the same time. otherwise you'd get uneven flow into the plenum runners and different burn rates in cylinders. i'm pretty sure the twins were just used because you get greater surface area (hence, air flow) than just a large single one. ILLUSIV 27-12-03, 09:53 They both open at the same time, but the 2nd throttle body has a restrictor plate, which means it only opens up around 75% on full throttle.... The throttle bodies are also different sizes. I can't remember which one is bigger, the primary or secondary. I'll check it out.. Basically they were 183kw stock, and with modifiying the restrictor plate so it opens fully, they got up over 200kw dead stock.... VL400 27-12-03, 19:27 I thort they were a staged setup. The way i thort they worked was the primary opens then when past a certain point pushes on a pin conected to the secondary throttle body opening it. craig 30-12-03, 12:02 The primary throttle body is 65mm and secondary 90mm,They have a linkage set uo prim throttle opens till 1/4 then linkage hits secd throttle body and then both work together till full throttle. If you use both at same time dwn low you loss torque. The restricter plate is a tin gasket in the 90mm throttle body with a little hole in it simply take gasket out. ILLUSIV 02-01-04, 13:20 This is from the VL SS Group A supplement vol 9... The primary throttle body is 63mm and the secondary is 80mm, with the secondary is progressiely actuated by the primary when the accelerator pedal is depressed more than 30%. A ristrictor is situated between the secondary throttle body and the plenum chamber aperture to reduce the "intake roar" under full acceloration conditions. Stretch_W 03-01-04, 14:06 They are staged. The sesond one begins to open at about 30%. You can easily play with the points at wish you want the throtts to open by just putting bushes on the butterflys. It is worth while as you can eliminate that falt spot half way up the power curve. If they opened at the same time, bottom end torque would be poor. In all honesty the cars dont really take off until about 3500rpm. giantbrandon 03-01-04, 15:44 thanks guys for the replys brandon GMH-GEM 18-04-04, 01:50 is the secondary t/b on the vn group a bigger than the one on the walky?? sir5.7 20-04-04, 14:12 i think vn ones are 65 and 90mm. ive got both at home so i will have a look. vlt-dreamer 20-04-04, 14:19 200 kw stock is great news, you learn something every day... so im guessing the same would apply to the vn throats GMH-GEM 26-04-04, 00:27 did you find out sir5.7?? ILLUSIV 27-04-04, 10:40 200 kw stock is great news, you learn something every day... so im guessing the same would apply to the vn throats I guess, if the VN group A had the restrictor plate yeah.. I dunno if it did though.... sir5.7 12-05-04, 16:55 **** totally forgot. they are out getting polished for my vk so dont know just yet. vn grp a didnt have restrictor plate. |
