hi guys
i have a 1988 vl turbo berlina with the rb30 motor, i started it up this morning drove fine for a while then stopped at the lights car stalled on me its an auto.
Started it up again continued driving, usually boosts up around 2.5grand this time when it done made a loud hissing sound like it was trying to suck in air, and it wont change into third gear, any help will be appreciated thanks.
Inspect all the relevant hoses as a start,
take off turbo front pipe and AFM and feel that turbo spins
freely by turning with finger then start her up and
see that turbo spins ok at idle.
Stop engine and re-attach pipes and AFM.
Do you have a boost gauge and will it boost above 7psi ?
Just a start - its notoriously difficult to diagnose long distance from a post
where the assumptions you make might not match those of the reader etc..
yeh i got a boost gauge but it reads in bar form, no straight psi, and idle it reads -.5 when it boosts around 5.2 bar, also i have an intercooler since the problem started it wont dose, it feels like alot of pressure is building in the pipes, i also have a manual boost controller.
have you boosted it and if u have a BOV is it leaking?
also did u block the over boost valve as if u go over 10 psi it will open and let all air out.
but if the car isnt reving right aswell then i will guess its AFM usally wen a turbo goes u get smoke or no boost but i shouldnt stall.
Maybe try another AFM.
1 more thing u say u got a cooler see if u have any pipe joins leaking mate cause it also sounds like that.
that happened 2 me b4 and sounds like the same thing like air rushing out but no power.
did you say 5.2 Bar??? LOL thats like 75psi !
S!IT just read that again thought it said .5 psi whooa manz thats some crazy boost ur turbo will be working overtime manz....
Check ur wastegate pipe mine came of my TX3 Turbo and it was running in excess of 30 psi have a look.
did you say 5.2 Bar??? LOL thats like 75psi !
where can i get a 5 bar boost gauge from?
better yet a 5" 5bar boost gauge
maybe a Turboed 747 jet engine man i dunno lol.
5.2 bar that is a blown head gasket right there lol.
maybe a Turboed 747 jet engine man i dunno lol.

Thats would be 65psi+ CRAZY
thx for the help guys i got a mechanic coming to my house tmoz to check it out hopefully it is nothing serious
Sounds like a silicone join in your cooler piping has come off. If it aint dosing it isn't making any boost but if you hear the turbo sucking air then the turbo should be fine and the boost is just lost somehwere.
